CVE-2026-40369: Incremento de Dirección de Kernel Arbitrario a través de NtQuerySystemInformation (Clase 253)

Causa Raíz

ExpGetProcessInformation es llamado por ExpQuerySystemInformation para las clases de información 5 (SystemProcessInformation), 0x39, 0x94, 0xFC y 0xFD (253 = SystemProcessInformationExtension).

El sitio de llamada en ExpQuerySystemInformation+0xD7A:

Cuando userBuffer también apunta al Kernel (por ejemplo, sondear para el tamaño de búfer requerido), la función entra:

Para la clase 253, v95 se establece al puntero del búfer (v91 = buffer = NULL) sin ninguna comprobación NULL. El bucle de iteración de procesos luego intenta incrementar un contador en *v95, causando una desreferencia de puntero NULL en modo kernel → BSOD.

Las clases 5 y 252 manejan los búferes NULL correctamente porque usan variables diferentes (v81/v86) y tienen comprobaciones adecuadas antes de desreferenciar.

Evaluación de Explotabilidad — ESCRITURA DE KERNEL ARBITRARIA

El Bypass de ProbeForWrite

ExpQuerySystemInformation llama a ProbeForWrite(buffer, Length, alignment) antes de despachar. ProbeForWrite con Length=0 es un NO-OP completo — todo el cuerpo de la función está controlado por if (Length).

Por lo tanto: NtQuerySystemInformation(253, arbitraryKernelAddr, 0, &needed) pasa un puntero de kernel no validado a ExpGetProcessInformation.

La Primitiva de Escritura

Por cada proceso en el sistema, la función ejecuta:

Esto da:

  • addr+0: Incrementado en 1 por proceso → total = número de procesos en el sistema
  • addr+4: Suma de todos los conteos de hilos de procesos
  • addr+8: Suma de todos los conteos de handles de procesos

Por qué ocurren las escrituras a pesar de LENGTH=0

ExpGetProcessInformation comprueba if (length < 12) y establece STATUS_INFO_LENGTH_MISMATCH, pero NO retorna temprano. Almacena el estado de error y continúa en el bucle de iteración de procesos, ejecutando las escrituras en v95 para cada proceso antes de finalmente retornar el estado de error.

Funciona desde Chrome Sandbox, Edge, Firefox

Totalmente alcanzable:

  • NtQuerySystemInformation NO está bloqueado por el bloqueo de win32k
  • El token restringido NO impide esta syscall
  • El nivel de integridad no confiable NO impide esta syscall
