Descripción de CVE-2022-41220

md2roff 1.9 sufre un desbordamiento de búfer en la pila a través de un archivo Markdown que contiene una gran cantidad de caracteres consecutivos para procesar.

Replicación

Para replicar la vulnerabilidad, descargue una versión vulnerable de md2roff (versión 1.9):

git clone https://github.com/nereusx/md2roff.git
cd md2roff
git checkout 9241b8cfeb687c57099f3ef45f03a8ad3f291cf4
make

Una vez compilado el proyecto, podemos procesar un archivo markdown malicioso producido por nuestras pruebas de fuzzing para replicar una caída del programa:

./md2roff poc.md

Ejecutar el comando anterior producirá un segfault:

segmentation fault  ./md2roff poc.md

Compilar el proyecto con address sanitizer (ASAN) confirma nuestro desbordamiento de búfer en la pila:
