
Python-basierter Proof-of-Concept-Exploit für CVE-2024-6387 (OpenSSH regreSSHion), der glibc-basierte 32-Bit-Linux-Systeme über Heap-Manipulation und Race Condition angreift.
„Dies ist im Wesentlichen eine statistische Schwachstelle: Es sind viele Versuche erforderlich, um das Race Condition zu gewinnen und beliebigen Code erfolgreich auszuführen. Der Angreifer muss viele Hürden überwinden“, sagte Schwartz gegenüber SecurityWeek. „Selbst im besten Fall dauert es bei der bekanntesten Schwachstelle mehr als 4 Stunden, bis sie ausgeführt werden kann.“
In den Versionshinweisen zu OpenSSH 9.8 weisen die Entwickler darauf hin, dass die Schwachstelle nur auf 32-Bit-Linux-Systemen auf Basis von glibc bestätigt wurde, und stellen fest, dass OpenBSD nicht betroffen ist.
Die Umgebung wird mithilfe von Docker eingerichtet.

Im öffentlichen Netz ist bereits ein PoC verfügbar, allerdings muss er kompiliert werden – der Code ist im entsprechenden Link enthalten. Ich habe ihn in Python umgeschrieben und Multithreading-Parallelität hinzugefügt, um die Angriffsgeschwindigkeit zu erhöhen. Zusätzlich habe ich eine Begrenzung auf 100.000 Ausführungen ergänzt; nach erfolgreichem Angriff wird das Programm beendet.
