
Proof of concept for CVE-2022-44318
Foi descoberto que a versão 3.2.2 do PicoC contém um estouro de buffer na heap na função StringStrcat em cstdlib/string.c quando chamada a partir de ExpressionParseFunctionCall. Qualquer projeto ou biblioteca que utilize o Picoc também sofre com este problema. Um exemplo disso seria o picoc-js.
Para replicar a vulnerabilidade de estouro de heap no PicoC, primeiro devemos baixar e compilar uma versão vulnerável (v3.2.2) da biblioteca e do interpretador PicoC:

Execute o interpretador em modo de script contra o arquivo StringStrcat_heap_overflow.c incluído neste repositório:
$ ./picoc -s StringStrcat_heap_overflow.c
Você receberá uma falha de segmentação (segfault) e o programa irá travar. Isso é resultado de um estouro de heap que não é capturado ou tratado pela biblioteca ou interpretador. Podemos recompilar o projeto com o address sanitizer (ASAN) para ter uma ideia melhor de onde isso está ocorrendo. Vamos adicionar -fsanitize=address à variável CFLAGS no Makefile e recompilar a biblioteca:

Quando executamos nosso programa, obtemos a seguinte saída do ASAN nos mostrando que o estouro de buffer na heap ocorre em StringStrcat cstdlib/string.c, linha 40:
